CurtainUp Critic Robert Hicks Robert Hicks has worked as a freelance journalist for 12 years in New York City. He is currently contributing to Time Out New York, St. Petersburg Times, Louisville Courier-Journal, The Tennessean, Gannett New Jersey, The Express-Times and The New York Theatre Wire . He has also published in Stagebill, The Dallas Morning News, Contra Costa Times, The Record, Asbury Park Press, Memphis Commercial Appeal and Sarasota Herald Tribune. In the past, he contributed to magazines such as Down Beat, Jazziz, Guitar Player, Bass Player, Ear, Coda, Jazz Critique, Option, Rhythm Music and Photo District News. He holds a B.A. in English and philosophy from the University of Tennessee and he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. He took a M.A. in English literature (Modernism) from the University of Sussex in England. He fondly remembers going to plays at the Tony Award-winning regional theater, Barter Theatre, in Abingdon, Va. in his youth and being introduced to Off-Off Broadway, Off-Broadway and Broadway shows during off-campus study courses in New York while an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee. He furthered his theater education working at Long Wharf Theater and attending plays at Yale Repertory Theater in New Haven before moving to New York City. He is originally from Tennessee and now lives in Queens. |
