After Ashley Plot Details
By Elyse Sommer The play jumps from the first scene when Justin is home sick and Ashley confides all her frustrations, including sexual incompatibility with his father to a voiceover that replays Justin's desperate call to 911 after his mother has been murdered by the mentally ill handyman his father has hired to do the family yard work. It's now 2002 and the voice-over is being played during a rehearsal for a TV interview featuring Alden in connection with After Ashley, his book about how he and Justin's coped with the tragedy. While Justin, hates the notoriety of being the "9/11 kid" he' s agreed to help push his dad's book for financial reasons. But while Alden gets right into the swing of being a public persona, and even agrees to move to Central Florida to host his own reality crime show, Justin, helped by Julie the girl who was initially attracted to his "fame" ends up sabotaging his new career in the interest of truth and the play ends on a note of hope that Justin will move on and have a good, but private, life.
