A CurtainUp Berkshires in the Berkshires
Nijinsky's Last Dance
I won't be in Stockbridge for the opening of this solo play so, until and unless I catch up with it, below are some details to give you an idea of what to expect. -- Elyse Sommer

Nijinsky's Last Dance
Jeremy Davidson as Nijinsky (Photo: Kevin Sprague)
The mad genius and first male icon of ballet, Nijinsky, has inspired a number of plays which CurtainUp has reviewed. Berkshire theater goers who saw Davidson's spectacular performance as the Marquis de Sade in Quills some years ago, won't doubt for a minute that he can portray a madman. But Davidson is something of a hunk, and not a dancer. Yet, Les Gutman who saw Nijinsky's Last Dance when Davidson first developed the role found this did not hinder his portrayal, and in fact made it that much more remarkable. Davidson has undoubtedly worked on his performance and with Joe Calarco who also directed the DC production again at the helm, Unicorn audiences can look forward to seeing this solo show about the first male icon of ballet, who spent half his life dancing and the other half in and out of mental hospitals, at its most polished.

The music accompanying Davidson bravura performance includes Debussy's""Faun" and Strauss's "Til Eulenspiegel."

For further details see the original review of Nijinsky's Last Dance. You may also want to check out other Nijinsky plays CurtainUp has reviewed: Death of a Faun which, except for some brief dances by the dance playing the "Faun" lacked excitement . . .Nijinsky Speaks which was more of a dancing tour de force. . .Romola and Nijinsky which focused on Nijinsky's marriage.
