Introducing Our First Report from North of the 49th Parallel

Toronto is recognized as the third-largest theatre centre in the English-speaking world, after New York and London. Canada's largest city with more than 4.2 million residents in its greater metropolitan area, Toronto is within a day's drive of more than half of the population of the U.S. and, like the rest of Canada, has a favourable exchange rate with the U.S. Dollar!

There are now over 200 professional theatre and dance companies, including non-profit and commercial theatres This added up to over 10,000 live performances last year. Toronto also boasts two internationally recognized major summer festivals: The Stratford Festival and the Shaw Festival. Toronto Report will also pass along other items likely to be interesting, amusing or helpful.

Toronto Reports Mission Statement

These occasional notes and reviews from Toronto will cover productions in each of the following categories:
  1. Significant new plays that have not been reviewed in New York
  2. Shows which may be on their way to New York
  3. Shows which, for one reason or another, have attracted attention outside the Greater Toronto Area
  4. Shows from Festivals in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).
